Waiopehu students take GOLD at Taekwon-do World Championships in Germany.


Over the last week, 3 students and 1 former student at Waiopehu College have headed to the World Taekwon-do Championships in Germany to compete as part of Team NZ. Students Janae Whakarau, Dan Yates, Callum Mitchell and former pupil Connor Mitchell have all been apart of Team NZ that finished NUMBER 3 IN THE WORLD!

Our students competed in a variety of difficult and complex categories against the worlds best. Janae Whakarau is now a double World Champion having won GOLD in the Individual power breaking and Team power breaking.

Dan Yates is also a World Champion having won GOLD in Team Specialty.

Everyone at Waiopehu College is extremely proud of you all. Your work ethic, dedication and pure love for the sport is transparent for all to see. Safe flight home and see you all back at college soon.
